Both Hawai\u02bbi Island and Kaua\u02bbi have confirmed Ceratocystis lukuohia (destroyer of \u02bb\u014dhi\u02bba) and Ceratocystis huliohia (disruptor of \u02bb\u014dhi\u02bba) the two fungal pathogens causing R.O.D. While C. Lukuohia is a more aggressive fungus, either species will kill the beloved \u02bb\u014dhi\u02bba. Avoid stepping on \u02bb\u014dhi\u02bba roots while walking or hiking.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t move \u02bb\u014dhi\u02bba wood or \u02bb\u014dhi\u02bba parts.<\/strong> This includes parts of the \u02bb\u014dhi\u02bba like the lehua blossoms and liko (leaf buds).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t transport \u02bb\u014dhi\u02bba inter-island.<\/strong> Follow State Department of Agriculture rules.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clean gear and tools, including shoes and clothes before and after entering forested areas.<\/strong> After brushing off soil, spray with 70% rubbing alcohol. Clothes and shoes should be cleaned before and after entering Hawai\u2019i\u2019s forests. Wash clothes in hot water and soap.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wash the tires and undercarriage of your vehicle to remove all soil or mud.<\/strong> Try and remove all soil\/mud from your tires and undercarriage, especially after traveling off-road.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a class=\"theme-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/RapidOhiaDeath\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">More Information<\/a>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]\n<h3>Little Fire Ants<\/h3>\n<p>The Little Fire Ants were discovered on Hawai\u02bbi Island in the late 1990s. Since then, it has found it way to Kaua\u02bbi, O\u02bbahu, and Maui. Impact of the Little Fire Ants have been substantial, potentially impacting agriculture, tourism, environment, human health, and quality of life. On Hawai\u02bbi Island alone, the ant is estimated to have caused about $174 million a year in damages. Native to moist tropical forests of the eastern Himalayas, it has, unfortunately, naturalized in other areas including Hawai\u02bbi.
